On the road
Since we moved to Austria, every day feels like a holiday to me. But when I know that my whole family will be in one place at the same time, with no school and no work, on a saltwater beach, the anticipation still gives me chills. For weeks, I had been counting down the days until I could start the laundry, get things ready, pack the bags, and finally hop into a taxi, board a plane, and head straight for the water.
This year, there was one especially special detail: we crossed all those kilometers with a baby who was exactly 5 months old, and this was his very first flight. I won’t lie, I was nervous that everything would go smoothly and that we wouldn’t completely shred Wolfie’s nerves, but this little guy once again exceeded our expectations. Even though we timed both the outbound and return journeys to fall during his nap time, the trip was obviously too exciting for him to fall asleep at the usual time. So our flight took off with an overtired but endlessly curious baby on board—where a little welcome package had been prepared for Wolfie at my seat as a baby passenger on the plane (thank you again, Austrian Airlines ♥)—but in the end, he fell asleep without a sound, from exhaustion and maybe also from Mom’s late post-dinner snack 🙂
