Christmas visit as a mom‑to‑be – my parents are here!

Loved spending Christmas Eve at home with my boys, but if you’ve been reading for a while you know the holidays are best for me when the whole family is involved and, ideally, I get to host them. This is how this year started too, but then the dates got a bit scrambled, so this Christmas we get a bit of everyone, just at different times.

After our cozy little family Christmas Eve, my parents were up first, whom we were (very, very) eagerly expecting on the 25th. You always feel that you miss your loved ones, but that feeling really hits hardest when they’re finally here and you feel the difference between video calls and real hugs.

I would never want to downplay how important they are to me, but when they told me that in that huge wrapped bundle they had actually brought me my piano (no idea how or when they managed to get it out of the storage unit in Vác where the rest of our “waiting-to-travel” things are), I was completely overwhelmed. My dad and Laci set it up in the bedroom while my mum, Rú and I were putting the finishing touches on lunch, and ever since then it’s the last thing I play at night and the first thing I touch in the morning.

Thank you so, so much… Unfortunately they could only stay for one night, but we made the most of it with shared meals, a walk around town, some archery for the boys and, for us girls: sewing!

I got the first sewing machine of my life, and at the best possible time. I insisted on sewing the baby blanket by hand (that deserves its own post, because it really is a story in itself), but I have so many more little DIY projects in mind that will be a thousand times more fun and look so much more polished this way. Cannot wait to really dive into those patterns!

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Later, I took on a new role at the Department of Health within the Ministry of Interior, continuing my journey in the healthcare field from a different perspective. Life has also grown in beautiful new ways: a wonderful partner has brought fresh energy and warmth into what was once just me and Rú—now we’re a family of three. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
