Hello from Korinthos I. (+video!)

This Greek journey didn’t start today when we arrived, but already on Thursday when we packed everything, and even on Wednesday when I went shopping with my kid for the missing travel essentials. This is a major milestone for me, because if you take a water-loving girl (whose superpower is being able to happily raise a child alone, move, change jobs, and educate herself if needed) and consider the past few years—either burdened by a global pandemic or moving from point A to B, changing schools, and all the surrounding chaos—it’s no surprise that the only salty water I saw was for cooking.

Being here now, in a sleepy corner of the Mediterranean, feels like opening a door I haven’t opened in years. It means, in part, that the difficult, bumpy times have ended; it means something really good has begun; but mostly, it means that this good thing starting now is worth continuing, nurturing, and holding on to.

If I get into details, no old reader will be surprised when I say things didn’t go as smoothly as planned 🙂 Maybe you remember our trip to Thailand, when life tested me and my kid’s patience, resourcefulness, and disciplined panic management on the way home 😀 The road to Korinthos wasn’t as rough as that return, but we didn’t get our boarding pass until two hours before the early morning flight, and upon arrival, we found out our accommodation was canceled because it was accidentally rented out to someone else on another site—and they had already moved in ;D But a family is strong, and these colorful little episodes only spice up our time together, which ended with a spacious place just 15 meters from the sea.

Here, where I can do yoga on the balcony every morning while gazing at the sea, where I can immerse myself in the dark, cool water in the evenings, and spend my days wandering ancient cities worn by millennia, I can confidently say that the past years have led somewhere after all—and that somewhere is home. A home that forms here and there, but whose essence is always the same: it is exactly where we are together in it.

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
