Ruben’s Name Day 2020

Happy Name Day, Ru..!

Finally, a moment has come when, no matter the circumstances, I make sure to create space and time in the day for what matters most: family.

This ongoing emergency situation has made every hospital a challenging place, yet the healing of patients and the workflows built around it are values into which one puts their whole heart. Even outside of emergencies, this is demanding work, but despite 10-11 hour shifts, we go to bed each night with peace, knowing we have contributed something meaningful—something that moves things forward, something worth sacrificing Saturdays and Sundays for, and facing the next week and the one after with resolve.

Yes, but when for safety Mami and Papi watch over a mother’s golden-haired boy and they meet online far more often than in person, those already precious days—like shared celebrations—shine even brighter in everyday life. I can’t express how grateful I am to my parents for organizing Ru’s name day party, and how happy I am that after thorough disinfection and precautions, I could be present on the big day!

And the best part of it all…? That the whole family came together and participated in the treasure hunt for gifts through the camera: my sibling and their family, my partner (who is also safe from Covid with his family in Somos), his parents and brother, and Ru’s dad and his partner too.

Because this whole current situation, the intense and heavy work, the lonely returns home, can only be endured if we are sure we are not alone, even if the other is not always physically close.

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
