Vienna I.

So, how did my pre-teen son and I end up in the breathtaking heart of Vienna? Well, that’s a long story, which began about ten years ago at a Krav Maga training session and has been unfolding ever since, woven through years of winding paths. And although the roads we humans walk sometimes become bumpy, sometimes fork, sometimes slope steeply only to turn abruptly vertical, and sometimes loop back on themselves in strange ways, this peculiar labyrinth eventually led us to this city built from gummy candies, cobblestones, pulsating life, history, a river flowing with dignity, and familiar-yet-strange flavors—where we saw a bit of the new and a bit of the old in ourselves—and in each other.

Here, I reinterpreted the past and the future, and the significance of everything that led me to my present. I reconsidered the ironic duality between the desire for connection and the yearning for independence. While I absorbed the city’s solidity, something formed within me: although some things may seem frightening at first, even like a kind of submission, in time it may turn out that a worthy relationship with another person can bring forth values in us that would never have blossomed otherwise. A kind of dualism between people.

This is what it looks like when I’m feeling chilly and only have soft, warm clothes with me, while in Vienna’s warm embrace even a T-shirt feels like too much — but luckily there’s a boy of the same size nearby, with a suitcase full of T-shirts ;D Sorry for all the kid’s clothes, but I absolutely loved wearing them myself!

…and where do you take a mom and her boy on a Saturday night to let off some steam? Who would have thought that a trip to the amusement park, riding roller coasters, exploring the haunted house, going through obstacle courses, and setting a record on the whack-a-mole game would be the perfect plan ;D

Of course, Ruben found the archery target, and our national archery champion even won me the cutest plush ♥

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
