    Late summer, early autumn

    2025.06.02. /

Hello, Autumn! Hello, new feelings! Since the weather cooled down while we were in Tihany, I’ve felt autumn in the air—a change that surpasses the turning of any other season. It marks the closing of freedom, of summer, of another version of myself, and the beginning of a constructive, fulfilling, and promising new period. My second job is starting up again (which I wasn’t willing to touch over the summer, but now the thought almost calls me), I’ve enrolled in my new semester courses, and this morning I packed all the necessary and unnecessary things into Rú’s kindergarten locker to calm myself down. Speaking of kindergarten and my golden-haired boy—this…

    Ruben’s red smoothie

    2025.06.02. /

Hi everyone! I want to share with you a truly summery smoothie recipe that became our favorite after the very first sip! While shopping, we couldn’t stop picking out fruits—we craved the tastes of summer cold and juicy. Then we thought, why not turn these delicious fruits into a drink for an even bigger experience? It turned into quite a fun kitchen adventure! Ruben, as always, was a total partner in our culinary creativity, and this is how our best family smoothie recipe came to be: Red Smoothie (4 servings)  (Measuring cup: a handful of a 5-year-old boy) Dated: Aug 5, 2017

A closing-bracket Wednesday, just like in the good old days…!

    2025.06.02. /

It feels like a thousand and one years ago since we last had a truly “parenthetical” day with my golden-haired one—just the two of us, doing whatever we pleased all day long. How I would give anything for those days before kindergarten (not that we don’t love kindergarten now), when we went on playground adventures, visited fairs, learned nursery rhymes, and sometimes even indulged in ice cream for a mid-morning snack. Though no summer after that will ever bring those exact moments back, we still embraced last week’s trip to Vác with a mix of familiar and new feelings. We splashed in the fountain, conquered playgrounds, and hunted for ladybugs…

    Leasing cat at the house!

    2025.06.02. /

We’ve been toying with the idea of getting Rú a pet for a long time. I definitely wanted something with soft fur, cuddly, actively affectionate, and from which our little one could learn some responsibility—feeding, watering, litter training, vaccinations, and so on. That ruled out reptiles and fish right away. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough free time for a dog, so among smaller mammals, a cat came closest to meeting our expectations in size, owner needs, basic cleanliness, and ease of care. A coworker at the office wanted a kitten for her daughter, and with one of my students, we recently followed the latest litter’s growth with some brief cuddles.…

    Birch grove

    2025.06.02. /

From Thursday to Tuesday, Sunday was the only day I didn’t have exams, and as such, I simply couldn’t let it go to waste. The brilliant sunshine, warm air, and the gently warming water of Nyírjes gave us the perfect morning! At noon, the moms invited us over for a lunch with tárcsás cooking, which hopefully gave Rú a chance to plant his curly parsley seeds—have you ever soaked compact soil in warm water? We were amazed when a dried soil disc, about the size of a fizz tablet, suddenly swelled into lush potting soil right in our pot! Now all that’s left is to nurture this delicate herb Dated:…

    Thursday hangout

    2025.06.02. /

There couldn’t have been a better way to end a successful workday than with a cozy picnic by the Nyírjes! After leaving the office, I tossed a pack of peanut puffs and a bottle of tea into my bag, picked up the little one from kindergarten, and we didn’t stop until we reached the lake. It reminded me a bit of the old days (ever since he turned five, almost everything reminds me of the old days), when he used to toddle holding my hand and wanted to go everywhere at once. Yesterday, on the other hand, we talked about kindergarten things, the differences between boys and girls, and what…

    Mom’s Day!

    2025.06.02. /

Every year, I get goosebumps at the thought that I’m celebrated on this day too, even though I’ve had plenty of time to get used to it. Five years ago, when Rú made me a mother, I had barely a week to adjust to the idea before this celebration arrived. My postpartum hormones were still rushing through my veins, I was learning how to breastfeed, living the sleepless life, and savoring these new feelings inside me—when I woke up to realize it was Mother’s Day, and now it was honoring me too! That day, I heard for the first time in my life people calling me “mom” all day long,…

    Happy Birthday, Ru!! -2017.04.23.-

    2025.06.02. /

Dear Ruben, Never in my life have I felt such completeness as I did five years ago when they placed you on my chest and we finally got to know each other. I remember your weight as you lay on me after you were born, I remember how comforting your warmth was, and I couldn’t get enough of the thought that you were mine—tangible and irrevocably mine. I looked at you and tried to take in every detail: the color of your eyes, your milk-blond hair, the wrinkles on your forehead, breathing in your baby scent, trying to guess why you moved the way you did. Every day (and every…

About Us

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’ve been running this blog on a small platform for 9 years, and now I’ve ventured out into the open waters with it for a year. I was a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own.

When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital.

As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I worked as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Later, I took on a new role at the Department of Health within the Ministry of Interior, continuing my journey in the healthcare field from a different perspective. Life has also grown in beautiful new ways: a wonderful partner has brought fresh energy and warmth into what was once just me and Rú—now we’re a family of three.

Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu.

So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength.

Thank you for stopping by!
