Leasing cat at the house!

We’ve been toying with the idea of getting Rú a pet for a long time. I definitely wanted something with soft fur, cuddly, actively affectionate, and from which our little one could learn some responsibility—feeding, watering, litter training, vaccinations, and so on. That ruled out reptiles and fish right away. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough free time for a dog, so among smaller mammals, a cat came closest to meeting our expectations in size, owner needs, basic cleanliness, and ease of care.

A coworker at the office wanted a kitten for her daughter, and with one of my students, we recently followed the latest litter’s growth with some brief cuddles. So we felt the time had come for a pet test!

Unfortunately, we had to admit that a cat born outdoors would never have a happy life in an apartment on an upper floor—though I do believe in cats’ laziness and that those accustomed to indoor life really enjoy it with all its comforts. After two days and two nights (which somewhat resembled Rú’s baby phase with sleepless nights, soothing, and potty training), we concluded that Ruben is too young, and I am too old, to tame a cat for ourselves in our resting place. And although we haven’t given up our craving for a furry friend at home, we’ll definitely choose from a litter of indoor cats when the time is right (:

Still, we had a great time these past few days, and I’m sure it will be one of Rú’s defining summer experiences.

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
