Christmas Eve – 2023

– Little Letters to the Spirits of Christmases –

Dear Spirit of Past Christmases,
Thank you for being with me, but it’s better now without you. I grew weary of waiting and hoping for something better. Maybe it was necessary, maybe you made me wiser, but I didn’t become happier because of it. However, you were an excellent starting line for me to meet your big sibling here and now:

Dear Spirit of the Present Christmas,
Thank you for being with me and filling my home, filling the corners, and flowing over the set table. You outdid yourself with your light, the feelings you planted in me, and everything you brought with you for this day. I am grateful for the greatest things surrounding me now, but most thankful for the little ones: the feather garland on the tree, the plump oranges in the kitchen, the found lost things within myself. Please stay with us a little longer, won’t you?
P.S. Thanks for the snow, we loved it! xxx

Dear Spirit of Future Christmases,
I know we don’t know each other yet, but I want you to know I’m looking forward to you, wherever we may meet. Please be kind to us, and if you bring nothing but a few peaceful days with those I love, that alone will more than fulfill what you can naturally bring. I wouldn’t mind if the path leading to our meeting goes smoothly and I can truly enjoy it—please don’t let me get lost in trivial but flashy things. I will do my best. See you next year, I’m excited!

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’m a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own. When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital. As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I currently work as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu. So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength. Thank you for stopping by!
