Biscuit and cranberry
When I had finally had enough of the constant gunfire sounds coming from the Xbox over the Pentecost long weekend, I lured the kiddo into the kitchen for a breakfast baking session. Unfortunately, due to my lack of time and his lack of interest, we only manage to bake together on weekends, but when it finally happens, it’s just as good as when he was little. Maybe it’s a bit easier now since handling every appliance no longer comes with window cleaning, bowls dropped on the floor with squealing laughter, and mom getting covered in flour with bubbling giggles. Every change brings something good, but the joy of messing around…

Sweet home- balcon edition 2021
When you have to create your living space within 56 square meters, you’re forced to make use of every nook to turn everyday life into something livable and to truly make a home out of an apartment. And if a balcony complements this nest, only laziness can limit its cozy use… My balcony spent two summers neglected (last year’s neglect excused by the virus and work overload), and when Ru said he didn’t want to sit out there with me in the morning to read because the whole thing really needed tidying up, I realized he was right. In fact, it only took a day and a firm resolve to…

31! (And the experiences of another year)
This anniversary doesn’t really deserve a separate post here, though perhaps that’s just my disillusionment speaking. But life, I believe, evens itself out in the long run, and sometimes I’m a bit headstrong and impulsive. I know, I know… I’ve been working on it for about 31 years. Unfortunately, not everything turns out as one hopes, and a defining decision of mine proved to be wrong, even though I believed wholeheartedly in its success—something I had to face on my birthday. Well, perhaps this year has gifted me the lesson of dignified loss, which, let’s admit, is a tough one. However, now—exactly one month later, looking back—I might say that…

Rú Birthday: 9!
This April felt eerily similar to 2020… No birthday party, no friends, no extended family. But we did need a little sunshine (thanks to the heavens for blessing my son’s birthday with one of the three sunny mornings of the month—my heartfelt gratitude, truly). We also needed a little mood boost to mark that this was indeed a special day, not just an ordinary Friday. And yes, this year too, we needed a homemade cake (oh, that’s always a big story every year :))) ). Beyond that, all we needed was the little one, me, and lots of hugs, kisses, and snuggles—something I could rightfully demand on my son’s birthday…

Easter 2021 – Preparations
Well, I know this isn’t really the kind of year when I can gather the whole family for a big Easter lunch (which traditional holidays usually provide a perfect excuse for), but with a little boy by my side, it’s impossible to stay completely indifferent. Although Ru has already outgrown the little-kid Easter phase (I still haven’t fully come to terms with these changes, but I’m trying hard), a family still needs to pay attention to events that color everyday life. And well, work is work, and childhood is childhood, so no matter what, the conditions for these occasions have to be created. So for setting the mood (between two…

Welcome back!!! & Life Lately 2021…
Hello again! I know I haven’t dedicated much time to writing this year due to obligations that can be attributed to the obvious pandemic reasons, but April carries so many family celebrations year after year that I definitely didn’t want to miss archiving these moments here in my tucked-away little virtual nook. I won’t have much time beyond this to spend here, but I’m happy and proud to share with you a few photos that have been captured so far: And they mostly tell about the luxury moments of the day, those minutes when one tries to shut out the thoughts that are popping day and night and the desperately…

Christmas, 2020 (+video!)
I never dreamed I’d actually have a Christmas this year, but my colleagues helped out at the administration office, and so I got a few days just as a mom at home, right in the middle of Christmas 🙂 I won’t go on and on (though if I did: yes, we’re tired, but no, Christmas is not a burden; it’s gift time together that I’m truly grateful for. And yes, the video is a bit clumsy because I made it on my work laptop and not with iMovie) — here are our experiences in photos and a Christmas video. I hope that these past few days have also given you…

Sweet home- the living room edition, 2020!
After our lives were completely turned upside down by the first wave of Covid and as we were already preparing for Covid II, multiple changes across various fronts in our lives called for a home transformation. The nesting mood usually hits me in late summer to early autumn, and although this year’s urge wasn’t as strong as in previous years (see the Sweet Home posts from past years on https://daysonpaper.blog.hu), I still had to give in to the inner drive and get a few things for the house. Since a piano became part of our family back in March (which, due to lack of space, displaced the sofa—the only remaining sofa…

Coffee with ice cream, morning sunshine, and autumn luxury moments
Oh my goodness, how much time and how many events have passed since I was last here..! To be honest—and as everyone knows—new times are upon us, and when I come home from work to an eight-year-old chatterbox… well, my first thought is not to sit back behind a screen. As much as I love these pages, sometimes one needs real surroundings, real books, real music, real connections—especially now, when circumstances threaten to stretch the distance again. Nevertheless, I want to share with you some moments from one of the most girly days of the recent period—a lazy, coffee-scented autumn morning soaked in sunshine with Grandma, when a mother-daughter breakfast…

Vác, you are amazing…
I definitely wanted to spend one of the last summer days in Vác—if only because in normal times I spend so much time here, and who knows when I’ll have the chance again. Due to the ever-changing circumstances, I fear that this year I won’t get the opportunity to take peaceful morning walks along the Danube, explore playgrounds with Ru, and enjoy a heavenly slice of cake at Mihályi Confectionery (which truly lives up to its reputation). In this post, I’m sharing with you the irreplaceable last moments of the slowly fading summer heat that we managed to catch in this captivating town.
