And we’re turning the page to a new chapter: first days at school

    2025.06.03. /

Oh my God, what a whirlwind…?! And yes, I’m still trying to catch my breath, but we’re already rolling through the first week. You know how it is. In the first week of August, I didn’t understand what was wrong with me, but by the second week, I could feel the stomach knots and the flood of questions growing in direct proportion to the approaching school start. I know, I’m terrible—and if there were a ranking for overcomplicating kid-related issues, my name would be at the top. But starting first grade, no matter how you look at it, is terrifying for a mom. (And the university scheduled our consultation week…

    Sweet home- ready to school…!!

    2025.06.03. /

I never thought in my life that I would be hit by such an emotional tsunami, but as my last semester of university approaches, Ruben is starting first grade. It’s even hard for me to say “school” instead of “kindergarten,” and I can’t stop (more and more impatiently) correcting myself with “what do you mean, kindergartennnn???” ((: Well, yes, one would think that starting school is a trauma for the child, but I have to say—and I think I can speak on behalf of mothers all over the world—that the kids can hardly wait for the novelty, and it’s the parents who are tearing their hair out with excitement during…

    Red Fruit Smoothie

    2025.06.02. /

Another kid-friendly tip for beating the heat: smoothies! I think I speak for every mom when I say this is a forever winner. Gather your little one’s favorite fruits, toss them into a blender with a few ice cubes, and serve in a cute glass with a funny straw—ready to go straight into those tummies! It’s a delicious and appealing vitamin bomb, and a few cookies on the side make it perfect for a mid-morning or afternoon snack. There’s no kid on earth who wouldn’t find ingredients they love and happily drink this in the heat of summer. Here’s what we threw together: Cheers to our health! (: Dated: Aug…

    Grund

    2025.06.02. /

The star of our last summer, Ruben’s unwavering favorite and object of adoration, came to life on Thursday when we wandered into the tree forts in Corvin Quarter. We simply couldn’t put down The Paul Street Boys (by Ferenc Molnár) until we finished a chapter. We couldn’t stop talking about the characters, and of course, we didn’t skip watching the movie after reading the whole novel. Visiting the “grund” felt like walking through the pages of the book itself—jumping from one tree fort to another, and closing the cover when we said goodbye to the beloved ground. Here is the living, breathing Paul Street, the fantasy brought to life in the life…

Divine cookies without sugar and white flour

    2025.06.02. /

I actually started a sugar- and flour-free diet for my brother’s wedding, and I got so hooked on it that I’ve pretty much stuck with it ever since. Primarily, girls want to lose weight with this kind of diet, but besides that, you cut out a lot of “white poisons” from your body, which I’ve found really makes my body feel so much better. I had no problem giving up sugar because I’m not really a sweet tooth anyway, and I wouldn’t have minded flour either—but I still miss pasta to this day! Whole grain versions were a complete disaster for me, so now I follow the “nothing is better…

A long day, starting with a good breakfast!

    2025.06.02. /

I won’t be able to write too much—I can barely stand. We got up early, which actually worked in my favor because today was the deadline to submit my final paper for the hospital internship. It had to be handed in as a physical copy at the department (don’t ask me why there wasn’t a digital option in the 21st century). Since I was already up, I also squeezed in a workout I’d been putting off for a long time. I had been looking forward to this day because I had taken Ruben out of kindergarten for the day so we could spend this Friday together—just like old times, just…

    May Day

    2025.06.02. /

This year, Ruben spent May 1st at the archery range (and took first place!), so we celebrated our May Day the day before along the Danube promenade in Vác. Basically, we just lay in the grass, walked our hundred-legged friend on our hands, played story dice, and read books. When Ruben got more energetic, we headed into the vendors’ area for a big bowl of strawberries, which we happily devoured while lounging in the grass. (: I wouldn’t trade these peaceful days for anything—especially now, at the start of exam season… Dated: May 3, 2018

    Ruben & Mom Day

    2025.06.02. /

A few weeks ago, Ruben and I decided to skip kindergarten for a day and have a special mom-and-son day! We set off to spend the day watching movies, visiting a toy store, and enjoying frozen yogurt—just the two of us. I loved every moment! At the same time, I sadly realized that the time has come when my son helps carry the heavy shopping bags and sometimes asks if I’m tired yet… He’s almost turning six, and I’m beginning to understand that there’s nothing I can do to stop him from growing up for good. About Us

Welcome to our little virtual corner! I’ve been running this blog on a small platform for 9 years, and now I’ve ventured out into the open waters with it for a year. I was a single mother raising my wonderful son, Ruben, who has grown into a remarkable teenager. For years, I was the sole breadwinner as a Krav Maga instructor, balancing the challenges of parenthood and work on my own.

When Ruben started kindergarten, I embarked on a new journey by studying healthcare management at Semmelweis University, specializing in health tourism management. After graduating, I began working in my field and experienced firsthand the tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a healthcare manager in a state hospital.

As the pandemic subsided, I transitioned into private healthcare, where I worked as a practice manager. Meanwhile, our family moved from a small town to Vác, a charming historic Danube riverside city near Budapest. Later, I took on a new role at the Department of Health within the Ministry of Interior, continuing my journey in the healthcare field from different perspectives.

Life has also grown in beautiful new ways: I moved to Vienna, got married, and now we are welcoming our baby boy, who will be Ru's little brother and will complete our family.

Here, we embrace the everyday moments and joys of life together. If you want to hear more stories about us, you’re warmly invited to visit the original Daysonpaper blog at S&Ru’s Diary on daysonpaper.blog.hu.

So I decided to try living for a year on an international stage and see if there are other mothers in similar shoes for whom this diary could be a support on the harder days—just as it has been a support for me when I was able to look beyond the difficulties and sincerely believe in my own strength.

Thank you for stopping by!
